The Ignorance Of Religious Man

The human body which is the governor of carnal desire has always kept man down as a result, the spiritual consciousness of man is hardly awakened and until this is done, man shall continue to see himself as a core identity of materialism. In the words of Dr. Regardie, “Most of the time man uses the psychic centers unconsciously when he prays or meditates”.

One Philosopher has this to say, “People have just as much work to do on their bodies as on their psychology in fact if the psychological work is not linked up not only with the spirit but with the body, the angel is denied its fruits and the debt which has been incurred through the deviation on forms will not be redeemed”. Humanity has a lot of work to do in order to understand the real spiritual nature of being. We must rise above the material nature through struggle with sincerity, fact, faith and discipline. The lower division of the physical is made up of solids, liquids, and gases which are able to be detected by our five foremost physical senses which in reality are really one.

Mere religious thought cannot do this because religion per se is always the external façade of inner reality. If I am ask to define the phenomenon religion, I may end up exasperating some people who esteem me high consequent upon my religious commitment. On the other hand, the same people can attest to my loyalty and radicalism in all aspects particularly when it comes to intellectualism. For the purpose of clarity however, I want to attempt a definition of religion as it relates to the present day world as “man’s implement of dominion over his fellow man.”

Though, religion is a system of exercising one’s “spiritual right” of worship for his creator or creators. So many scholars have advance so many definitions of religion but like Plato would say, “If a man neglects education, he walks lame to the end of his life”. In addition to this he who negates research has however destroyed his faith and belief, for a good decision is based on knowledge born of research and not on numbers.

Now through keen and unalloyed research we have hitherto discovered that the American great psychologist, Prof Jams H. Lueba collected forty-eight definitions from forty-eight great authors, added two of his own to make a round figure of fifty definitions of religion and yet found that religion has not been adequately defined. The problem of having a complete definition however confirms that religion is a complex phenomenon. I do not intend to border myself with the definition of terms hence the purpose of this article is to produce the deeper evidence beyond momentary debate that there is an aspect of religion that is yet unborn and unknown.

This aspect is the inner reality of religious drama that goes beyond all forms of religious theories, philosophical, psychological, theological, anthropological, social and otherwise. My intension here is not to offend some avid readers of my column as religion has always caused a lot of wars and dispute, separated families, friends and nations. I may offend so many on account of saying the truth that has been buried for ages, only the sincere seekers may not accuse me of apostasy, bigotry and syncretism because they are aware that on the way to academic destiny discoveries are common.

Now, there is the inner and outer world, the outer world is a reflection of the inner reality. The inner knowledge can be compared to a book about a home land that a traveler takes with into a strange country. Each man is born with the yarning to make truth real for himself, though he sees a great difference between them and the environment in which he lives. An internal drama is carried out by each individual, a psychic drama which is finally projected outward with great force upon the field of history. The birth of great religious events emerges from the interior religious drama. The drama itself is a psychological phenomenon in a way, for each physical oriented self feels thrust alone into a strange environment, without knowing its origin or destination or even the reason for its own existence. Like Albert Einstein would say, “the search for truth is more precious than its possession”. I wish to re-authenticate this by asserting that the hardest thing to understand is why anything at all should be understood.

The above is the dilemma of the ego, particularly in this early stage. It looks outward for answers because this is its nature; to manipulate within physical reality. It also senses, however, a deep and abiding connection that it does not understand, with other portion of the self that are not under its domain. It is also aware that this inner self possesses knowledge upon which its own existence is based.

Be informed that some are chosen by others to manifest outwardly the interior truths that are intuitively known. There are many levels of significance here. On the other hand, such individuals receive their unearthly abilities and power from their fellows, contain it, and exhibit it in the physical world for all to see. They play the part of the blessed inner self that actually cannot operate within physical reality uncloaked by flesh. This energy, however, is a quite valid projection from the interior self.

The personality so touched by it actually does then become, in certain terms, what he seems to be. He will emerge as an eternal hero of the interior religious drama. This is a continuous activity! When the strength of one great religion begins to diminish and its physical effects grow less, then the internal drama begins once again to quicken. The highest of man’s aspirations, therefore, will be projected upon physical history. The drama it selves will differ. Remember, they are built up internally first.

They will be formed to impress world conditions at any given time, and therefore couched in symbols and events that will most impress the populace. This is craftily done, for the inner self knows exactly what will impress the ego, and what kind of personalities will be best able to personify the message at any given time. When such a personality appears in history then he is intuitively recognized, for the way has long been laid, and in many cases the prophecies announcing such an arrival has already been given. The individuals chosen do not just happen to appear among mankind. They are not chosen at random. They are individual who have taken upon themselves the responsibility for this role. After their birth (like that of Jesus), they are aware to varying degrees of their destiny, and certain trigger experiences may at times arouse their full memory.

They serve very clearly as human representatives of All that is Divine. Now since every individual is a part of All That Is, to some extent each of us fit in that same role. In such a religious drama the main personality is much more conscious of his inner knowledge, more aware of his abilities, far better able to use them, and exultantly familiar with his relationship to all of life.

Consequently ideas of good and evils, Gods and devils, salvation and damnation, are merely symbols of deeper religious and cosmic values that cannot be translated into physical terms. They become that which we know not as Bertrand Russell puts it, “science is what you know; philosophy is what you don’t know”. It is obvious today that the objective religious men feed on the fear of the unknown, therefore when the sons of men on earth shall become wise, the prophet that feeds on the ignorance of the masses must go on hunger.
