My Stepmum Is Hard On Me

Dear Auntie Betty,

I am a girl of 14 and in JHS Two.I have a boyfriend who is in JHS Three.

We have been in a relationship for almost a year now.

My stepmother saw us walking down the road one day, and when I came home she did not ask me anything but slapped me. She later beat me up mercilessly.

I am confused whether to continue the relationship or put a stop to it.

I believe you know what you are doing is not right and you don’t need anyone to tell you.

Every concerned parent would not be happy with your behaviour. Do not harbour any ill-feeling against your stepmum or think that she does not like you.

Maybe she should have talked to you first but she didn’t. You have confessed that you are in a relationship which is bad at your age. I’m sure your mum would not have been happy with you if she had seen you with the boy.

Your parents are spending so much on your education, why do you want to step into adults shoes at your age.

You know what is best for you so go ahead and end the relationship because you need more time to study and not waste it on needless things.

Don’t allow your studies to suffer because of this. Be patient and complete your education, there will be more time for other things once you are an adult and ready to provide for yourself.
