At press time, we are yet to receive the full details but we learnt from a reliable source in Caracas that Dr. Olarotimi Ajayi, a diplomat with the Nigerian Embassy in Venezuela has been detained by immigration authorities in that country on his return from United States of America where he had gone to sit for diplomatic examination.

A family member who put a telephone call to our office informed us that he was detained on arrival from United State of America via United Kingdom on 20th July 2012 and he is being threatened with deportation back to Nigeria without being allowed to see his family who are still in Caracas.

The press statement says that Dr. Ajayi is being held in held incommunicado at the airport. First he was kept for hours without being informed while he was detained; according to the information, the Venezuelan immigration officers were not friendly to him but after hours of detention; he was moved from the airport to headquarters of the National Intelligence where they finger printed him and took photographs of his diplomatic passport. According to the report; he was locked up for the night and till this moment, he is still been held.

At the National Intelligence, the officers are friendly to him and he learnt that there was an attempt to have him kidnapped but they intervened. How true that is needed to be ascertained.

Till the moment of writing this press statement, no one has asked him any question on why he has been detained.

Today being 21st of July; two officials of the National Intelligence came to ask him questions on his recent visit to America where he had gone to sit for examination.

The is informed that his telephones are blocked so he cannot call or receive any phone calls even from his family.

A source from Abuja informed us that his ordeal may not be unconnected with his conflict with his boss, Ambassador Felix Oboro in Caracas. The person alleged that the ambassador may be behind Dr. Ajayi detention and ordeal.

The informant said that Ambassador Oboro claims that the Federal Government of Nigeria has placed a war alert on Dr. Ajayi in Nigeria. And that Dr. Ajayi 2012 examination promotion visit to America was to discuss Venezuela.

Can this be true? It does not matter what Dr. Ajayi has done, he is a Nigerian diplomat that should be treated with respect and honour by foreign government except if he has committed a crime. If Nigerians have dispute abroad should it be the responsibility of foreign immigration officers to be used to harass, intimidate and detain such officer? The minister of Foreign Affairs must take immediate action on the matter.

The gospel fact is that Mr.Ajayi has Venezuelan valid visa.what is the problem of Chief oboro and immigration officials?

My cousin in Venezuela just confirmed that it is a planned revenge mission by Amb.Oboro to get Ajayi out of Venezuela.Unfortunately,Oboro has bought his way in foreign Affairs,Abuja. It is Oboro that should go to give Nigeria a good image.

The Venezuelan govt should apologise to the Nigerian Government for this irresponsible action against Vienna convention while Oboro should return home.

Let Chief Oboro produce copy of the war/red alert!People will realise that he tells lies to deceive people.

Chief Felix Oboro has used Venezuela and dollars to divert attention away from his non performance. The two local staff,he has been instructed to sack have now used him to give Venezuela a bad name.A very bad diversion that will cause diplomatic problems.

What is the situation of Dr. Ajayi? has he been released and if not, why is he been detained and what is the ministry of foreign affairs doing about it? If they do this to a diplomat, what happens to ordinary Nigerians in that country? God have mercy.

lnformation at hand is that he has not been released.Chief oboro informed some people that since he retired on july 8th 2012,he should return home. But he is not the only officer that has retired in that embassy.Another officer retired in june 2012 and she is there. The same Foreign affairs keep officers at post for one or two extra years after retirement. Why harrassing him? There is more to it because ajayi blew the whistle on the looting of embassy funds by chief oboro and the Ambassador was queried and instructed to pay. They should check the records for facts and figures. There is high level conspiracy against ajayi which if he speaks, foreign Affairs will shake. He has even gone to court of law in Abuja and obtained court order which foreign Affairs is afraid to honour.

Pls jonathanthe image of nigeria is been battered, we need ur urgent attention to call ur boy(oboro) to order since he had refused to yield to the minister and perm sec order(ajayi should be release) the situation is quite hot now and oboro is mounting presure on the immigration officers to deport Dr ajaiy who had been detained since last week thursday. The question, is felix oboro higher than both the minister and perm sec of foreign affair? Or is oboro bigger then the authority of nigeria,mr president should quickly call his brother to order b4 the situation turn to regional or ethnic war, bc we the yorubas are watching with keen interest, if Dr. Ajayi is successfully deported to nigeria as planed by oboro, nigerian should prepare for upheaval, nigerian embassies are meant for nigerians and not ijaw and it cronies like oboro who believe the embassy is his heritance

Late President Yar' Adua must be regretting in his grave for appointing Ambaasador Felix Oboro as Nigeria's Ambassador to Venezuela who has not performed since 2008.If care is not taken, he will cause diplomatic rancour between the two countries.By the way is Oboro a relation of President Jonathan? If yes, then he is an embarrassment to the President of Nigeria,If no,he should be removed for not performing. His case is a sorry one.Oboro is giving both the President of Nigeria and foreign Affairs a very bad name.

It is unfortunate that Nigeria under President Goodluck Jonathan has failed to protect a senior Nigerian Career Diplomat kidnapped at the immigration desk in Venezuela. From information available, the Ijaw Political Ambassador Felix Oboro is the brain behind the kidnapping. The diplomat has not commited any crime against the State of Venezuela. President Jonathan should now call this self-confessed shady character of an Ijaw Ambassador to order whilst the Nigerian Foreign Minister should resign for failing in his duties as a competent administrator.
