The Permanent Observer of Denmark Bids Farewell to the AUC Chairperson

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, June 19, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr. Jean Ping, received in his office at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, on Friday, 15 June 2012, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Observer to the African Union, H.E. Ms Pernille Dahler Kardel, who came to bid farewell to the Chairperson, having come to the end of her stay in Ethiopia.

Welcoming his guest, the Chairperson commended Ambassador Kardel for the “fantastic” job she has done during her tenure as Denmark's Permanent Observer to the African Union.

On her part, the Ambassador lauded the progress made by the African Union in the last few years in raising its profile and imposing itself on the world stage.

“So much has changed since you came to the Commission. It is interesting to see how the role of the African Union in international affairs has evolved. Nobody any longer questions the role of the AU in any continental issue and its presence in any international forum,” she stated.

Ambassador Pernille Dahler Kardel, who has served as Denmark's Permanent Observer to the African Union for the last five years, two of which she served as Co-chair of the AU Partners Group, is not leaving Africa; she is moving to Cairo where she will serve as her country's Ambassador to the Republic of Egypt and Permanent Observer to the Arab League.
