The AUHIP Welcomes the Resumption of the Sudan-South Sudan Talks

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, November 25, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The African Union High Level Implementation Panel wishes to announce the resumption, in Addis Ababa, of the Post Referendum Arrangements negotiations between the Republic of Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan. The negotiations resumed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 21st November 2011, with talks on border issues including the principles and demarcation of a soft border.

Today, additional delegates from the two States will arrive in Addis Ababa to continue high-level negotiations on a range of other issues, including Transitional Financial Arrangements, Oil, Trade issues, assets and liabilities.

In line with its mandate, the Panel is committed to working with the two States to facilitate agreement on all outstanding issues in order realize the aspiration of the two viable Sudanese States at peace with each other.

Bearing in mind the challenges that attach to any process of this kind, the Panel is committed to see all of the matters to conclusion, and is consulting with the Parties on the best means to bring the variety of outstanding issues to a successful resolution.
