EXPOSED: WHY OHANEZE NDIGBO AND AKA IKENGA SUPPORT JONATHAN

Ohaneze Ndigbo is supposed to be amalgam of Igbo associations but it is not. Aka Ikenga is known as socio-cultural Igbo association which only handful of Igbo personalities belong. One tried to find out why the Ohaneze Ndigbo having its present President in the person of Ambassador Uwechue and Aka Ikenga having its Dr. Ebigwei, the chess sport master.

In the recent past, Ohaneze Ndigbo placed unprecedented number of full page advertisements with contradicting statements in its written body; the contents did not carry much convincing elements to show truly the need Igbos should vote for President Goodluck Ebele ‘Azikiwe’ Jonathan in the coming election. Besides, many Igbo personalities wanted to know where Ohaneze Ndigbo mustered the kind of fund that went into the ‘unbefitting’ advertisements that ran for months in almost all the Nigerian dailies when the association could not foot some simple bills needed for its administration. And for the Aka Ikenga, people questioned why a socio-cultural group should turn a political group and instigating who we should vote for.

Both Ohaneze Ndigbo and Aka Ikenga turned political yet they could not extract from Goodluck Jonathan any promise that he would hand over to an Igbo man in 2015. They could not even succeed in ensuring that Jonathan’s ruling party returned the chairmanship of the PDP back to Igbo land; rather he wants to wait and see the outcome of the election. A northerner still clings to the chairmanship position of the party. In short, there was nothing both associations could say they have done for the benefit of Igbo nation.

Full investigation has now proved that the chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo and that of Aka Ikenga coincidentally are from Delta state in south-south zone of the country and since Jonathan is from the zone the two associations’ leadership care less of what happens to the core Igbo nation. Igbo nation did lose out this time – not able to get vice-presidential slot of any party; not able to get the national chairmanship of the ruling party; not even able to extract promise that the Senate President under Jonathan would come to them and no promise that Jonathan would hand over to any core Igbo personality come 2015.
