GROUPS RAISES ALARM OVER PLOT TO FREE ARRESTED ACN THUGS

A Non Governmental Organisation in Ekiti State, the Ekiti Justice Group (EJG) has raised alarm over plot by the State Governor, Dr.

Kayode Fayemi and other Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the State to free the three thugs arrested with guns by in the early hours of Saturday.

Speaking through its National Coordinator, Dr. Tunji Oluwasanmi, EJG, in a statement made available to journalists today said the thugs, who were riding in a government vehicle were arrested with three Pump Action guns by eagle-eyed soldiers along Ado-Iworoko road and handed over to the police.

The thugs were said to belong to the ACN senatorial candidate for Ekiti Central, Mr. Babafemi Ojudu and they are being detained at the State Police Headquarters, Ado-Ekiti.

Oluwasanmi alleged in the statement that frantic moves are now being made by Fayemi and others to get the government vehicle, which was also impounded and the thugs realised with the guns seized from them.

“We are aware of Fayemi's effort to get the thugs and the government vehicle out of the police headquarters the way he (Fayemi) hurriedly secured the release of the ACN House of Assembly candidate for Ekiti East, Rotimi Ajidara, who was arrested with locally made short guns by men of the State Security Service (SSS).

“Though, we have alerted the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim on this clandestine moves, we feel oblige to alert the public too.

“Should the police in Ekiti State compromise on this matter, we won't hesitate to take it up at appropriate levels because this time around, our electoral process must be rid of evil minded people,” Oluwasanmi warned.

Speaking further; Oluwasanmi said; “We are also aware of several other thugs that were arrested during the botched Saturday polls, especially the three that were arrested by vigilant people of Orin-Ekiti and handed over to the police.

“All those arrested in connection with electoral crime must be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.”
