INEC Puts Chime Back On Election List
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 15, (THEWILL) – The Independent National Electoral Commission has once again posted a new list of candidates eligible to contest in the general election in Enugu State with the name of Enugu State Governor, Mr. Sullivan Chime and other candidates that emerged in the primary conducted by his faction returning to the list.
Recall that the electoral commission on Monday pulled down and replaced the Chime list with that of his rival, Chief Anayo Onwuegbu and other candidates that emerged from the congress their faction conducted.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Enugu State, Mr. Josiah Uwazuronye told THEWILL that he received a directive from the national office of the electoral commission on Tuesday evening to clear Chime and his faction as candidates for the election.
He declined to offer further explanations.
The decision to return Governor Chime and candidates from his faction to the INEC list of eligible candidates for the election came just as the a Federal High court in Abuja is expected to make a final ruling on the matter after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filed a suit to upturn an earlier court injunction barring INEC from recognizing those elected in the congress held by the faction of the party in the state loyal to Governor Sullivan Chime.
