Wikki Tourists Get New Leadership After NPFL Relegation

By Okiki Oluwasegun

The Bauchi State Government has announced a major restructuring of Wikki Tourists Football Club following the team's disappointing relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

In a move aimed at revitalising the historic club, the state government dissolved the existing management board with immediate effect.

The decision comes after an assessment of the club's performance during the 2025/2026 campaign, which ended with Wikki Tourists dropping into the Nigeria National League (NNL).

State officials explained that the overhaul is part of broader efforts to rebuild the club and restore its competitiveness.

Despite various forms of support provided throughout the season, Wikki Tourists failed to retain their place in Nigeria's top division, prompting the government to introduce fresh leadership.

To oversee the transition, former Bauchi State Director of Sports, Alhaji Haruna Bako, has been appointed as the club's interim sole administrator.

He takes over responsibility for the club's affairs and is expected to supervise day-to-day operations until a new management board is constituted.

Among his immediate responsibilities are coordinating the handover process, managing the club's administrative activities and ensuring that all assets, records and financial obligations are properly accounted for.

He has also been tasked with developing strategies that will strengthen the club ahead of the new NNL campaign.

The Bauchi State Government expressed confidence that the leadership change will create a stronger foundation for Wikki Tourists and improve the team's chances of securing promotion back to the NPFL.

Wikki Tourists remain one of Nigeria's most recognised football clubs, and supporters will be hoping the latest restructuring marks the beginning of a successful rebuilding process.

With preparations for the upcoming season expected to begin soon, attention will now shift to player recruitment, technical planning and restoring confidence both on and off the pitch.

The club's immediate objective will be to challenge for promotion and return to the country's top-flight league at the earliest opportunity under its new administrative leadership.
