Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho is reportedly on the verge of committing his future to Celtic by signing a new two-year contract following an impressive first season with the Scottish Premiership champions.

The striker joined the Glasgow club on a free transfer ahead of last season and quickly established himself as an important member of the squad.

Although injuries interrupted parts of his campaign, Iheanacho still delivered several crucial performances, scoring vital goals that contributed to Celtic's successful title defence.

His displays have reportedly convinced the club's hierarchy to secure his services on a longer-term basis. Talks between both parties are said to be progressing well, with an agreement expected to be finalized before the start of the new campaign.

The proposed extension comes despite reported interest from clubs in Qatar and Turkey, who were believed to be monitoring the Nigerian forward's situation.

However, Iheanacho appears keen to continue his career in Scotland after enjoying a positive relationship with the club and its supporters.

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill recently hinted that the club is eager to retain the experienced striker, emphasizing the importance of completing the deal early enough to allow him participate fully in pre-season preparations.

The coach believes a complete pre-season programme will help Iheanacho reach peak fitness and make an even greater impact during the upcoming campaign.

Now 29, Iheanacho brings experience gained from playing in England and Europe, making him one of the senior figures within Celtic's attacking options.

Should the new contract be completed as expected, the Super Eagles forward will be looking to build on last season's performances and help the Hoops compete successfully in both domestic competitions and European football.
