England manager Thomas Tuchel has challenged his players to raise their performance levels despite securing a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Norway.

The Three Lions were pushed to the limit by a determined Norwegian side, who opened the scoring in the first half through Andreas Schjelderup.

Norway also created several dangerous opportunities and came close to extending their advantage, but England remained in the contest before Jude Bellingham equalised just before the interval.

The quarter-final remained finely balanced throughout the second half, forcing the match into extra time. Bellingham once again proved to be England's match-winner, scoring his second goal of the night after reacting quickest to a rebound from Morgan Rogers' effort.

The midfielder has now netted six goals in six World Cup appearances, continuing his outstanding tournament.

Despite celebrating qualification for the last four, Tuchel admitted he was dissatisfied with his team's display.

Speaking after the match, the German coach acknowledged that England benefited from moments of fortune and felt his players made the contest more difficult than necessary.

Tuchel pointed to careless passing, technical mistakes and a lack of attacking rhythm as areas that require immediate improvement.

Although he praised his squad's determination and resilience, he stressed that reaching the semi-finals should not distract from the need for better overall performances.

England remain in the hunt for World Cup glory, but Tuchel insists his side must produce a much higher standard if they hope to lift the trophy.
