Nigerian Midfielder John Otomewo Set for Stade Reims Move
Nigerian midfielder John Otomewo is edging closer to completing a transfer to French side Stade Reims after reports indicated that an agreement has been reached with Israeli club Hapoel Jerusalem.
The 19-year-old is expected to make the move in a deal reportedly worth €1.6 million, a transfer that would set a new club record for Hapoel Jerusalem.
The fee is said to surpass the previous highest sale in the club's history, highlighting the growing reputation of the promising youngster.
Otomewo's rise has been impressive. He only joined Hapoel Jerusalem's youth setup last year after catching the attention of scouts during a talent discovery tournament in Nigeria.
His performances quickly earned him opportunities to train with the senior team, where he continued to impress coaches with his composure, vision and technical ability.
The midfielder's breakthrough came when injuries created openings in the first team. He seized the opportunity and established himself as a regular in the squad, making 19 league appearances during the season and attracting interest from clubs outside Israel.
Reports suggest Otomewo will travel to Israel before heading to France, where he is expected to undergo a medical examination ahead of finalising the transfer.
A successful move to Stade Reims would mark another major milestone in the teenager's career and provide him with the opportunity to continue his development in French football.
It would also add his name to the growing list of talented Nigerian players making their mark across Europe's top leagues.
If completed, the transfer could serve as a significant step toward Otomewo's long-term ambition of competing at the highest level and eventually earning a place in Nigeria's senior national team.
