Nigeria and Kosovo are set to strengthen their sporting relationship with plans for an international friendly between their senior national football teams following a new partnership agreement.

The collaboration was confirmed during a meeting in Abuja between the Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, and Kosovo's Deputy Prime Minister, Glauk Konjufca.

The visit focused on expanding cooperation through sports as both countries seek to deepen diplomatic and economic ties.

Konjufca praised Nigeria's position as one of Africa's leading nations, noting that closer relations would create opportunities that would benefit both countries.

He expressed appreciation for the warm reception his delegation received, describing it as the beginning of a long-lasting partnership.

According to the Kosovo official, discussions with Nigerian authorities covered several areas of collaboration, with football and judo identified as immediate priorities.

He revealed that Kosovo is eager to organise an international friendly against Nigeria while also sharing its expertise in judo, a sport in which the European nation has produced world and Olympic champions.

Olopade welcomed the proposal, saying the NSC is committed to partnerships that will enhance sports development and support the Federal Government's vision of making sports a major contributor to the economy.

He added that international collaborations would create new opportunities for athletes, coaches and administrators while encouraging knowledge exchange between both countries.

If finalised, the proposed friendly match would mark the first football meeting between Nigeria and Kosovo and could open the door for broader sporting exchanges in the future.
