Portuguese midfielder João Palhinha has officially announced his departure from Tottenham Hotspur after the club decided not to activate the option to sign him permanently following the end of his loan spell from Bayern Munich.

The 30-year-old confirmed the news in an emotional message to supporters, thanking everyone connected with the club for making his time in North London a memorable experience.

Palhinha enjoyed a productive spell with Spurs, establishing himself as an important figure in midfield and playing a significant role during a challenging campaign.

Despite his contributions, Tottenham have opted to strengthen the squad by pursuing alternative midfield options ahead of the new season rather than completing a permanent transfer.

In his farewell message, the Portugal international expressed his appreciation to the club's fans, teammates and staff, describing his time at Tottenham as one of the most meaningful periods of his career.

He said representing the club had positively influenced both his professional and personal life, adding that his experiences in London would remain with him long after his departure.

Palhinha also noted that the city had become a special place for him and his family, making it difficult to say goodbye.

The midfielder ended his message by thanking the Tottenham supporters for their unwavering encouragement throughout his stay and wished the club success in the future.

Although his spell in England has come to an end, Palhinha remains under contract with Bayern Munich until 2028.

However, reports suggest he is unlikely to feature prominently in the German club's plans next season, with Sporting CP among the clubs linked with a move for the experienced midfielder during the summer transfer window.
