Ghana Coach Queiroz Keeps Future Uncertain After Colombia Loss
Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has declined to discuss his future following the Black Stars' exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying his immediate focus is on recovering from the disappointment before making any decisions.
Ghana's campaign came to an end after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in their Round of 32 clash at the Kansas City Stadium.
An early strike from Jhon Arias proved enough to separate the two sides, with the South Americans holding on to secure a place in the next stage of the competition.
The Black Stars struggled to make an impact in attack throughout the encounter. Despite enjoying periods of possession, they failed to register a single shot on target, leaving Colombia's defence largely untroubled.
Queiroz, who was appointed by the Ghana Football Association on a short-term contract in March after Otto Addo's departure, was asked whether he would remain in charge beyond the tournament. However, the experienced Portuguese tactician avoided giving a direct answer.
Instead, the 73-year-old explained that he intends to take time to reflect before deciding on the next step in his coaching career.
He noted that the emotions following the painful defeat were still fresh and that any decision about his future would come after careful consideration.
The result brings an end to Ghana's hopes of progressing further at the World Cup, with expectations now shifting to a review of the team's performance and the direction the national side will take in the coming months.
Whether Queiroz remains in charge or not, the Ghana Football Association is expected to evaluate the team's campaign as preparations begin for future international competitions.
The experienced coach's future is likely to become a major talking point in Ghanaian football over the coming weeks.
