Ghana have been dealt a major setback ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 encounter against Colombia after defender Kojo Oppong Peprah was ruled out through injury.

The 22-year-old sustained the injury during a training session as the Black Stars stepped up preparations for Saturday's crucial knockout fixture.

Medical examinations later confirmed that the defender would not recover in time to take part in the match, forcing the coaching staff to make changes to their defensive plans.

Peprah may not have featured regularly during the tournament, but he made a strong impression whenever he was called upon.

One of his most memorable moments came during Ghana's group-stage clash against England, where he came off the bench late in the game and produced a vital goal-line clearance with a brave header to preserve his team's hopes.

He was also given an extended opportunity in Ghana's final group match against Croatia, playing throughout the second half and delivering a composed defensive performance as the Black Stars secured qualification for the knockout rounds.

His absence leaves Ghana with an important decision to make as they prepare to face a talented Colombian side.

The coaching crew will now have to rely on other defenders to fill the gap left by the injured centre-back in what promises to be a demanding contest.

Despite the setback, Ghana remain determined to continue their World Cup journey and will be hoping the available members of the squad can rise to the occasion.

Victory over Colombia would see the Black Stars progress to the Round of 16 and move one step closer to a memorable run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
