Former Super Eagles defender Michael Emenalo has ended his tenure as the Saudi Pro League's chief football executive after completing a three-year spell in one of the league's most influential leadership positions.

Emenalo, who also served as head of the league's Player Acquisition Center of Excellence (PACE), is departing following the expiration of his contract.

His exit brings to a close a period during which he played a key role in shaping the rapid growth of football in Saudi Arabia.

Since joining the league in 2023, the former Chelsea technical director oversaw major recruitment strategies that attracted several internationally renowned players to Saudi clubs.

Beyond signing established stars, he also championed efforts to bring in younger talents as part of the league's long-term development plans.

According to reports, Emenalo is leaving the position to spend more time with his family, while interest in his services has already emerged from clubs in Europe.

The Saudi Pro League expressed appreciation for his contributions, thanking him for his commitment and wishing him success in the next stage of his career.

Reflecting on his time in Saudi Arabia, Emenalo described the project as an ambitious journey that exceeded many expectations. He said one of his greatest achievements was helping establish the structures and standards needed to support the league's continued growth.

He also praised the league's staff, club executives and football development teams for their dedication throughout his tenure, noting that their collective efforts helped transform the competition into one of the fastest-growing leagues in world football.

Although acknowledging that more work remains to be done, Emenalo said he leaves with satisfaction, believing the Saudi Pro League is now in a stronger position to continue its progress both on and off the pitch.

His departure marks the end of a significant chapter in the league's ongoing transformation into a global football destination.
