Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann has expressed his desire to remain in charge of the national team despite their disappointing elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The four-time world champions crashed out in the Round of 32 after suffering a 4-3 penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay following a 1-1 draw after extra time.

It was the first time Germany had ever lost a World Cup penalty shootout, bringing an unexpected end to their campaign.

Speaking after the match, Nagelsmann insisted he has no intention of stepping down, although he acknowledged that the final decision rests with the German Football Association (DFB).

"I'm not someone who runs away," the 38-year-old said. "I want to continue, but in football you don't always have it in your own hands. If the federation wants me to stay, I will prepare the team for the European Championship and the Nations League."

The defeat has intensified speculation over Nagelsmann's future, with former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp once again being linked with the national team job.

However, Klopp declined to comment on the rumours, saying it was not the appropriate time to discuss such matters.

Despite the painful exit, midfielder Nadiem Amiri believes Germany has the quality to recover. He pointed to the country's talented young players, including Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz, as reasons for optimism, while admitting the squad was still struggling to come to terms with the heartbreaking defeat.
