Super Falcons Get Dedicated Welfare Committee For WAFCON Title Defence

Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations received a boost after the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) established a special welfare committee to support the Super Falcons during the tournament in Morocco.

The newly formed seven-member body will focus on ensuring that players and officials enjoy a smooth and distraction-free campaign as the team seeks to reclaim and defend its continental crown. The committee is headed by Aisha Falode, while Ruth David will serve as secretary.

NSC Director General Bukola Olopade stressed that the welfare of the players remains a top priority, noting that all outstanding bonuses and financial obligations owed to the team have been cleared ahead of the competition.

He explained that the initiative reflects the Federal Government’s determination to provide the Falcons with the best possible environment to succeed.

According to Olopade, the aim is to eliminate any off-field issues that could affect performance and allow the players to focus entirely on football.

He added that the government and football authorities are united in their desire to see Nigeria emerge champions once again.

The NFF also welcomed the move, describing it as a positive step for women’s football in the country. Officials believe the committee will strengthen support structures around the team without interfering with the responsibilities of coaches and administrators.

The Super Falcons have been drawn in Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt and Malawi. Nigeria will begin its WAFCON campaign against Malawi on July 28 in Casablanca as the team targets another successful outing on the continental stage.
