Chelsea To Receive €20m Boost As Maresca To Replace Guardiola At Manchester City

Chelsea are reportedly in line for a significant financial windfall following developments surrounding Enzo Maresca’s expected move to Manchester City, with reports suggesting a compensation package of around €20m (£17.25m) has been agreed.

Pep Guardiola’s decision to bring his long tenure at the Etihad Stadium to an end has triggered a managerial search that has quickly pointed toward Maresca as the chosen successor.

The Italian tactician, who previously worked within City’s coaching structure, is now expected to return to the club in a senior role.

However, the situation has not been straightforward due to Maresca’s recent departure from Chelsea, where he had signed a five-year contract but left after just 18 months in charge.

His exit prompted discussions between both clubs, particularly given concerns over contractual obligations and potential internal knowledge he may have carried with him.

Negotiations between the involved parties have reportedly been ongoing for weeks, with Chelsea understood to have considered their legal and financial position carefully before reaching an agreement. According to reports, City have now settled on a compensation fee that clears the path for Maresca’s appointment.

The Italian manager is expected to travel to Manchester shortly, where he will finalise a three-year deal and be officially unveiled as Guardiola’s successor.

For Chelsea, the agreement provides a timely financial boost as the club continues to navigate squad restructuring and compliance with Premier League financial regulations.

The €20m injection could play a key role in balancing their books ahead of an active transfer window.

From Manchester City’s perspective, the focus now shifts to ensuring a smooth managerial transition while maintaining momentum in their long-term project following Guardiola’s era.
