Canada delivered a historic performance in Vancouver as they recorded their first-ever FIFA World Cup victory, crushing Qatar 6-0 in a dominant Group B encounter.

The match, played in front of an energetic home crowd at BC Place, saw Canada overwhelm their opponents from start to finish, with striker Jonathan David producing a standout display by scoring a hat-trick.

Canada entered the tournament still searching for their first win in World Cup history, having previously gone seven matches without victory. However, they made a strong statement early in the game, taking control and never allowing Qatar to settle.

David opened his account in the first half, capitalising on a loose ball to double Canada’s lead before adding a second just before half-time following sustained pressure in the final third. His third goal came deep into stoppage time, sealing a memorable night for the Juventus forward.

Cyle Larin and Nathan Saliba were also on the scoresheet, while Qatar’s misery was compounded by an own goal from Mohamed Manai.

The Asian side also finished the match with nine men after two players were sent off during a difficult evening.

Canada’s dominance extended throughout the pitch, with goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau largely untested as Qatar failed to register a single shot on target.

Despite a second-half injury to midfielder Ismaël Koné, which briefly halted play, Canada maintained control and saw out the match comfortably.

The result marks a major milestone for Canadian football, boosting their chances of progressing from Group B as they prepare for their final group match against Switzerland.
