Nigerian forward Stanley Iheanacho has sealed a permanent move back to Danish Superliga side FC Midtjylland, joining from Portuguese second-tier club CD Mafra in a transfer that marks a major step in his growing career.

The 21-year-old striker has signed a long-term contract with the Danish club running until December 31, 2030, bringing an end to his two-year spell in Portugal.

During his time at CD Mafra, Iheanacho developed steadily, scoring 17 goals in 65 appearances and establishing himself as an important attacking option.

FC Midtjylland’s sporting director, Kristian Bach Bak, expressed delight at bringing the striker back to the club, highlighting his development and maturity since leaving Denmark.

He noted that Iheanacho initially had to fight for minutes at Mafra but gradually grew into a key contributor with goals and assists.

Bak also praised Iheanacho’s athletic qualities, describing him as a dynamic forward with strong pace, high work rate, and an aggressive style of play in attacking situations. His ability to press defenders and finish chances was also singled out as a major strength.

Speaking after completing the move, Iheanacho described the transfer as a natural next step in his development. He explained that his earlier spell at Midtjylland’s academy helped shape his career, and returning to the club feels like a continuation of that journey.

He added that regular playing time in Portugal helped him improve, and now he is focused on breaking into the first team, contributing to success, and competing in European football, including the Europa League.
