England Call Up Trevoh Chalobah After Livramento Injury Blow

By Okiki Oluwasegun

England have been forced into a late squad change ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after Tino Livramento was ruled out due to injury, with Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah stepping in as his replacement.

Livramento picked up a calf problem during a training session on Sunday, and subsequent medical assessments confirmed that the Newcastle United full-back would be unable to continue in the tournament.

The setback comes just days before England begin their World Cup campaign, dealing a blow to manager Thomas Tuchel’s defensive plans.

The Football Association confirmed the development, stating that FIFA regulations allow teams to replace an injured outfield player up to 24 hours before their opening group match. This rule opened the door for Chalobah to be added to the squad at the last minute.

Chalobah, who has been in solid form for Chelsea, will now join the England setup as they prepare for their Group-stage opener against Croatia in Dallas.

However, he will not travel directly with the main squad. Instead, he is expected to report to the team’s base in Kansas City, Missouri, before linking up fully with his teammates.

England officials described Livramento’s injury as unfortunate, especially given his expected role as defensive cover during the tournament. The 23-year-old had been seen as a valuable squad option, and his absence reduces depth in the backline.

Despite the setback, England remain focused on their World Cup ambitions, with Chalobah now expected to provide additional defensive support as the Three Lions aim to start their campaign on a strong note.

The team will face Croatia in their opening fixture, before moving on to their remaining group matches as the tournament progresses.
