Amorim Agrees to Become AC Milan Head Coach
Rúben Amorim is reportedly set to take over as AC Milan’s new head coach, according to BBC Sport, marking a major managerial shift ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 41-year-old is expected to travel to Milan later this week to finalize a two-year agreement that will see him replace Massimiliano Allegri.
Allegri was dismissed following a poor run of results that ultimately cost the club a place in next season’s Champions League.
Although the deal is not yet officially signed, sources in Italy suggest that Amorim has already accepted the terms and is preparing for his return to top-level management in Serie A.
In a notable development, reports claim the Portuguese coach has agreed to waive the remaining salary owed to him by Manchester United after his departure in January.
His exit from Old Trafford, alongside his coaching staff, was estimated to cost the English club around £15.9 million.
Amorim’s spell at United lasted just 14 months and ended after a difficult period in charge. Despite that setback, his reputation remains strong due to his successful tenure at Sporting CP, where he ended a long league title drought and secured multiple domestic championships.
He previously replaced Erik ten Hag at Manchester United in November 2024, after the club opted against delaying the managerial change.
If all paperwork is completed as expected, Amorim’s first match in charge of AC Milan will be a pre-season friendly against Celtic on July 25, before an intriguing final warm-up clash against Manchester United on August 15.
