Christian Eriksen was taken to hospital after collapsing during Denmark’s international friendly against Ukraine on Sunday, prompting the match to be abandoned.

The experienced midfielder went down in the 65th minute of the encounter after appearing to clutch his chest.

Medical personnel immediately rushed onto the pitch to attend to the 34-year-old before he was transported for further evaluation.

Fortunately, the Danish Football Federation later confirmed that Eriksen had regained consciousness and was responding well. Team officials disclosed that the midfielder was stable and in good spirits despite the frightening incident.

Denmark’s national team doctor, Morten Boesen, revealed that Eriksen briefly lost consciousness but recovered quickly after receiving medical attention.

According to him, the player was able to leave the field on his own and remained in contact with both doctors and teammates after being admitted to hospital.

Further examinations are expected to determine the exact cause of the collapse. Medical staff will continue to monitor his condition before making any decisions regarding his return to football activities.

The incident revived memories of Eriksen’s medical emergency during the 2021 European Championship, when he suffered a cardiac arrest during a match against Finland.

Following his recovery, he was fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (ICD), a device designed to monitor and regulate heart rhythm.

Despite that setback, Eriksen successfully returned to professional football and has continued his career at the highest level.

The latest incident sparked concern across the football community, with players, fans and officials sending messages of support while awaiting updates on his health.
