Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan has delivered another impressive performance, setting a new meet record after winning the women’s 100m hurdles title at the New Taipei Athletics Open in Taiwan on Saturday.

The former world champion clocked a time of 12.72 seconds to claim first place in the final, comfortably ahead of host nation athletes Bo Ya Zhang and Yi Po-an, who finished second and third respectively.

Her winning performance not only secured her the gold medal but also broke the previous meet record of 12.80 seconds, which was earlier set by former world champion and Olympic silver medallist Nia Ali.

Amusan had already shown strong form earlier in the competition after easing through her qualifying heat to secure a place in the final without difficulty.

In the final race, she maintained full control from the start, gradually building momentum after clearing the fourth hurdle and pulling away from the rest of the field.

Her dominance became even more obvious in the closing stages, as she increased her lead significantly and crossed the finish line well ahead of her competitors, with the last athlete still approaching the final hurdle.

Zhang finished second with a time of 13.17 seconds, while Po-an placed third in 13.37 seconds.

The victory adds another highlight to Amusan’s growing list of international achievements, reinforcing her status as one of Nigeria’s most consistent performers in athletics on the global stage.
