Liverpool Confirm Andoni Iraola As New Head Coach

Liverpool have officially announced the appointment of Andoni Iraola as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Spaniard takes over at Anfield following the departure of Arne Slot, whose tenure with the Reds came to an end over the weekend.

Iraola arrives with a growing reputation after guiding AFC Bournemouth to one of the most successful campaigns in the club’s history. Under his leadership, Bournemouth secured a sixth-place finish in the Premier League and qualified for European competition for the first time.

Their achievement was largely driven by an impressive unbeaten run during the second half of the season.

Before entering management, Iraola enjoyed a distinguished playing career, spending 12 years with Athletic Bilbao and making more than 500 appearances.

He also represented Spain at international level before concluding his playing days in Major League Soccer with New York City FC.

His coaching journey began in Cyprus with AEK Larnaca, where he lifted the Cypriot Super Cup. He later managed Mirandes and Rayo Vallecano, leading the latter to promotion to La Liga before establishing himself in English football with Bournemouth.

Reacting to his appointment, Iraola expressed excitement about joining one of the world’s biggest clubs. He praised Liverpool’s rich history, passionate supporters and winning culture, describing the opportunity to work with elite players and compete for major trophies as a dream challenge.

The 43-year-old will now begin preparations for the new campaign as Liverpool aim to challenge for silverware on multiple fronts.
