The 2026 Ibom Open is set to attract widespread attention as over 350 golfers from Nigeria and around the world converge in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for the prestigious tournament scheduled to begin on June 4 and run through June 7.

The annual championship, which started in 2023 as an international amateur golf event, has continued to grow in popularity, drawing increasing participation each year.

Organisers say this year’s edition has already exceeded expectations, with registration numbers surpassing initial targets within a short period.

According to the Chairman of the Organising Committee, the competition is not only about sporting excellence but also about creating opportunities for participants and promoting the region as a global golfing destination.

He noted that the enthusiasm surrounding the event reflects its rising status on the international golf calendar.

One of the major highlights of this year’s tournament is the introduction of a premium prize package, including a business-class travel reward sponsored by Uganda Airlines.

Winners will have the opportunity to travel to selected international destinations, adding further prestige to the competition.

Officials of the Ibom Golf and Country Club also emphasized the broader impact of the tournament, describing it as a key contributor to tourism development and economic growth in Akwa Ibom State.

They highlighted the state’s growing reputation as a leading golf destination in West Africa.

Sponsors of the event also expressed optimism, stating that their involvement is aimed at supporting tourism, sports development, and investment opportunities in the region.

The Ibom Open continues to position itself as one of the most competitive and well-attended amateur golf tournaments in Africa.
