Super Eagles Striker Paul Onuachu Shortlisted for Goal of the Season in Turkey
Paul Onuachu has received another major recognition in Turkey after being shortlisted for the Turkish Süper Lig Goal of the Season award, further highlighting his impressive impact at Trabzonspor.
The Nigerian striker earned the nomination for his stunning acrobatic scissor-kick against Fatih Karagümrük in a thrilling 4-2 league victory last September.
The goal, which immediately went viral, was already crowned Goal of the Month for September, adding to its growing reputation as one of the standout moments of the season.
Despite his tall and imposing frame, Onuachu showcased unexpected agility and technical brilliance to execute the mid-air finish, a strike that drew praise from fans, pundits, and analysts across Turkish football.
His ability to combine physical presence with finesse has been one of the defining features of his game this season.
The 32-year-old forward also enjoyed a highly productive campaign overall, having previously claimed the August Goal of the Month award for a powerful header against Samsunspor.
His consistency in producing highlight-reel goals has made him one of the league’s most talked-about attackers.
Onuachu’s form extended beyond individual awards, as he finished the Turkish Süper Lig season as joint top scorer with 22 goals, sharing the Golden Boot with İstanbul Başakşehir’s Eldor Shomurodov.
In doing so, he etched his name into Trabzonspor’s history books as only the sixth player ever to finish a season as the league’s top scorer.
Across all competitions, the former Southampton striker registered 26 goals and two assists in 43 appearances, playing a key role in Trabzonspor’s strong campaign.
His contributions were further underlined in the Turkish Cup final, where he scored twice to secure a 2-1 win over Konyaspor and deliver the club’s 10th cup title.
