Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have retained their impressive position in the latest FIBA Women’s World Rankings, reaffirming their dominance on the African continent.

According to the updated rankings released by FIBA, D’Tigress amassed a total of 700.3 points, maintaining their place among the top teams globally.

The team, coached by Rena Wakama, remains the highest-ranked side in Africa and the only African nation currently sitting in the global top 10.

The ranking reflects the team’s recent performances, including their outing at the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament held in Lyon, France.

At the competition, D’Tigress recorded two victories and suffered three defeats, a performance that was still strong enough to preserve their global standing.

On the world stage, the United States women's national basketball team continue to lead the rankings, maintaining their number one position.

Host nation France women's national basketball team climbed to second place, overtaking Australia women's national basketball team, who dropped to third. China women's national basketball team and Belgium women's national basketball team complete the top five teams in the latest rankings.

D’Tigress’ consistency at the highest level continues to underline their growth and resilience in international basketball. As reigning African champions, the team has built a reputation for competing strongly against top-tier nations, despite limited resources compared to some of their global counterparts.

Their sustained presence in the top 10 is a significant achievement for Nigerian basketball and highlights the progress made in the women’s game over the years. With upcoming international competitions on the horizon, expectations remain high for D’Tigress to not only maintain their ranking but also challenge for greater honours on the global stage.
