Anthony Joshua’s Tragedy Sparked My Boxing Comeback – Tyson Fury
British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury has revealed that a tragic incident involving longtime rival Anthony Joshua influenced his decision to return to the ring.
Fury disclosed that the loss of two of Joshua’s close friends in a car accident in December deeply affected him and became a turning point in his own life and career. The former two-time world heavyweight champion said the tragedy reminded him that life is unpredictable and tomorrow is never guaranteed.
“Tomorrow might not ever come,” Fury said, explaining that the incident pushed him to stop postponing his ambitions. According to him, the event reignited his competitive spirit and gave him renewed purpose.
The 37-year-old is set to make his comeback on April 11 after a 15-month absence from boxing. He will face Russian-born heavyweight Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Fury had previously retired following his second consecutive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk at the end of 2024, stepping away from the sport for a full calendar year before announcing his return in January.
Beyond personal reflection, Fury also stated that he is returning to revive excitement in the heavyweight division. He believes the sport has lacked energy and glamour during his absence and says he wants to “make boxing great again.”
Although fans continue to hope for a long-anticipated clash between Fury and Joshua, any plans for a 2026 showdown are currently on hold.
As April approaches, Fury’s comeback adds fresh intrigue to the heavyweight scene, with many eager to see whether he can once again dominate the division.
