France coach Didier Deschamps has included his team among seven nations capable of winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to kick off in June next year. Placed in Group I alongside Senegal and Norway, France will look to build on their runner-up finish at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they lost the final to Argentina.

Speaking to Olé, Deschamps acknowledged the significance of football icons Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo participating in the tournament. “They are two players who have marked international soccer for more than 15 years; without a doubt, it is something special for them,” he said. Deschamps emphasized that while past results, including Argentina’s 2022 victory, are set in history, the upcoming competition offers a fresh opportunity for all teams.

“This is a new competition and we are going to try to go as far as possible. France can be a contender,” he added. The French coach further explained that every World Cup has six to seven strong teams with a realistic chance of lifting the trophy, but only one can ultimately succeed. “To be the best, you have to beat all the teams,” Deschamps noted, stressing the challenges ahead for all participants.

Deschamps’ comments come as anticipation builds around the 2026 World Cup, with fans and analysts closely following the draws and team preparations. France, with a mix of experienced stars and emerging talents, will aim to redeem themselves and contend for the ultimate prize.

As the tournament approaches, the spotlight remains not only on France but also on global football legends like Messi and Ronaldo, whose final World Cup appearances could mark the end of an era in international football.
