What was supposed to be a night of jubilation in Paris quickly spiraled into unrest as clashes broke out following Paris Saint-Germain’s emphatic 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final.

Celebrations turned violent in parts of the city, especially around the Champs-Élysées and the Parc des Princes, where tens of thousands had gathered to witness PSG claim their first-ever European title on massive outdoor screens. While many fans chanted, waved flags, and embraced the historic victory, others engaged in acts of vandalism.

Paris police reported that nearly 300 individuals were taken into custody amid the disturbances. The majority of arrests were due to public disorder, including illegal possession of fireworks and disruptive behavior. Emergency crews responded to scenes where bus stops were destroyed, vehicles were torched, and storefronts were damaged.

Authorities had prepared for large gatherings, deploying over 5,000 officers across the city in anticipation of potential disorder. Still, small groups of agitators clashed with riot police late into the night, hurling fireworks and other objects, according to police statements.

Despite the turbulence, many Parisians celebrated peacefully. PSG’s colors lit up landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, while families and fans danced and sang in the streets, creating unforgettable scenes of pride and unity.

French President Emmanuel Macron, although an Olympique de Marseille supporter, congratulated the team on social media: "A magnificent moment for French football. Bravo PSG – Paris shines across Europe tonight."

While the win marked a football milestone, the chaotic scenes afterward served as a stark reminder of the tensions that often accompany major sporting triumphs in urban centers.
