Barcelona Edge Real Madrid In Seven-goal Thriller To Move Closer To La Liga Title

Barcelona produced a stunning comeback to defeat Real Madrid 4-3 in a pulsating El Clasico clash on Sunday, inching closer to the La Liga title. Despite falling behind 2-0 within 14 minutes thanks to a quickfire Kylian Mbappe brace, Barca hit back with four unanswered goals in a first-half blitz at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

Eric Garcia began the comeback with a header in the 19th minute, before Lamine Yamal curled in a sublime equaliser. Raphinha added two more before the break, capitalising on Madrid’s defensive chaos to put the hosts 4-2 up at half-time.

Mbappe completed his hat-trick in the 70th minute, bringing his season tally to 39 goals, a new record for a Real Madrid debutant. However, Barcelona held firm during a frantic finish, even as Fermin Lopez had a fifth goal ruled out by VAR for handball.

The victory marks Barcelona’s fourth straight win over their bitter rivals this season — a feat they last achieved in 1983. With three matches left and a seven-point lead over Madrid, Barca can clinch the title on Thursday against Espanyol or if Madrid drop points against Mallorca.

Despite Mbappe’s individual brilliance, Real Madrid’s defensive woes continued, having now conceded 16 goals in four Clasicos this season. Barcelona’s balance of youth and experience, led by standouts Yamal, Raphinha, and Ferran Torres, highlighted their resurgence under Hansi Flick.

This gripping encounter not only reaffirmed Barca’s title credentials but also emphasized the growing gap between Spain’s biggest clubs in the 2024/25 campaign.
