Chelsea legend John Terry has named his all-time top four central defenders in Premier League history, placing himself among a distinguished group of elite defenders.

During an interview with SportBible, the former England and Chelsea captain was asked to name his “Mount Rushmore” of centre-backs and he didn’t hesitate to include both current and former stars.

Terry, widely regarded as one of the finest defenders to ever play in the Premier League, first mentioned Manchester United great Rio Ferdinand. He praised Ferdinand for his consistency and winning mentality throughout his illustrious career at Old Trafford.

“I’m then going to go Rio,” Terry said. “I think longevity, playing at the top clubs, playing in the big competitions year in year out, winning trophies relentlessly… he just had everything. So 100 percent, Rio’s in the conversation for me.”

Terry also included Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, known for his commanding presence, leadership, and influence in the Reds' recent domestic and European successes. The fourth spot went to Arsenal legend Tony Adams, who captained the Gunners across three decades and remains one of the most respected figures in English football.

With this selection, Terry’s defensive “Mount Rushmore” includes a blend of modern-day powerhouses and historic icons himself, Rio Ferdinand, Virgil van Dijk, and Tony Adams.

The list reflects not only individual brilliance but also the longevity and leadership qualities that have defined the careers of these standout defenders.

Terry remains a central figure in Chelsea’s history, having led the Blues to multiple league titles and European success during his two-decade stint at Stamford Bridge.
