EPL: Pochettino, Chelsea Part Ways By Mutual Consent

By Chimezie Nebolisa

Mauricio Pochettino has left his job as Chelsea manager by mutual consent, the Premier League club announced, ending the Argentine's reign at the club after one season despite a late revival in their fortunes.

Pochettino joined Chelsea ahead of the 2023-24 campaign when he replaced interim manager Frank Lampard.

He signed a two-year contract, with the club having the option of a further year, but the 52-year-old has now left the west London side after a turbulent campaign despite a late rally to finish sixth and secure European football for next season.

"On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season," sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said in a statement.

"He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career."

Euro 2024: Alaba misses out on Austria’s squad

Austria's captain David Alaba was the big name missing from the Euro 2024 squad announced on Tuesday by coach Ralf Rangnick.

The Real Madrid centre-back has failed to recover in time from the ACL left knee injury he suffered with Real Madrid in December.

"It's obviously a great pity he won't be able to participate as a player. I've been chatting to him over these past few weeks and he says it's his great wish to be around with us," said Rangnick.

Rangnick must reduce his provisional squad of 29 players to 26 by 7 June.

Austria open their Euro Group D campaign against France on 17 June in Dusseldorf, then face Poland in Berlin three days later followed by the Netherlands on 25 June.
