Anthony Joshua secured a unanimous points victory against Jermaine Franklin, at London’s O2 Arena, marking his first win in over two years.

Although the British heavyweight controlled the fight, it was not the explosive finish many expected, and tempers flared after the final bell. However, the win brings Joshua’s record to 25 fights, with 22 stoppages, and three losses since he turned professional in 2013.

Despite the pressure of the match, a defeat for Joshua would have been difficult to come back from. Franklin, a fringe world-level contender, gave Joshua a harder night’s work than most expected. Nevertheless, the British fighter is eager for a match-up with fellow Brit heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, indicating that he will continue to try and provide for the fans.

Fans expected to see the return of the old Joshua, who was a ferocious and ruthless combination puncher. However, the last time Joshua won in the first half of a fight was in 2016, against Eric Molina. The difficulty of Joshua’s opponents may account for his more recent performances
