Iga Swiatek Unhappy About Players Attitude To Ukraine

After playing a charity match in solidarity to Ukaine,World Tennis No. 1 Iga Swiatek says she hasn't forgotten Ukraine and admits she has faulted some players who have seemingly stopped showing solidarity with Ukraine. On Saturday, Swiatek held "iga Swiatek and Friends for Ukraine" in Krakow.

All the money raised was donated to Ukraine and Swiatek was happy to have accomplished her goal of organizing a charity for Ukraine. Since the start of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, The polish star has been calling for peace and showing solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

"I noticed that the memory of the war has diminished. Many players took off the ribbons that they put on in February for two or three matches. I find it a bit inconsistent. This ribbon stayed with me and will remain with me," Swiatek said.

Swiatek has been calling for peace since the start of the war

“For me the most important thing is using my voice,” Swiatek told Eurosport in March.

“I’m only 20, so I’m not an expert and I don’t know how to fight war but for sure I want sport to connect people, and bring a little bit of joy maybe and also for all the players to have kind of a similar voice so we can fight this together.

We’re kind of popular and we have some influence on the people in our countries, so why not use that?” Meanwhile, Swiatek will stay in Poland for at least some time as she is debut play at the Poland Open in Warsawa.

"I want to play in Warsaw as long as possible. This is a special tournament for me, playing at home. I know someone may expect I start another winning streak but I just want to have fun on court and present the best tennis," Swiatek said.
