The Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association Football Club last Saturday at the Aguiyi-Ironsi Cantonment beat the Chief of Army Staff Football Club 4-0 in a friendly football match organized to mark the 2010 Nigerian Army Day Celebrations (NADCEL), in Abuja.

The NAOWA, FC scored two goals in the first half and another two goals in the second half. The winning team 26 players displayed its professional football skills when the players held the key players of the COAS team including the goalkeeper on their waist and took the ball to the net and threw it in.

The officiating referee from the Abuja Sports Council accepted all the goals scored by the women to be in standard with FIFA rule as he threatened to issue red and yellow cards to the COAS FC players, when they tried to protest the manner the goals were scored.

Disappointed by the performance of his players, some of whom are playing in the professional league, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Abdulrahaman Bello Dambazau, disbanded the team for one year for failing to beat the NAOWA FC.

Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili, who was the special guest of honour, congratulated the women on their outstanding performance and urged them to keep it up as the Federal Government was thinking seriously of forming a women football club.
