JUST IN: Christian Obodo Regains Freedom

Former Super Eagles star, Christian Obodo has been freed from the den of kidnappers. The 36-year-old was abducted on Sunday afternoon in Warri while buying banana along Refinery road.

Obodo was reportedly released on Sunday night, he was reported to have paid an undisclosed amount of money to regain his freedom.

He explained his ordeal in the hands of the kidnappers in an interview with Brila FM on Monday.

“It was really discomforting locked up in a hot car trunk for hours,” Obodo told Brila FM.

“The kidnappers were even telling me about how they lost money for placing bets on Nigeria to score in the second half.

“They didn’t hurt me or intimidate me but I can’t understand the reason for anyone to want to put me through this sort of thing over again.”

This is the second time Obodo will be abducted, the first one was in Effurun, Warri on June 9, 2012.

The former Udinese star made 21 appearances for Nigeria between 2004 and 2008 scoring four goals.

Obodo was part of the Super Eagles squad at the 2006 African Cup of Nations playing four out of the six games, he scored the second goal in a 2-0 win over Zimbabwe.

Obodo spent most of his playing career in Italy playing for the likes of Perugia, Florentina, Udinese, Torino and Lecce.
