Real Madrid Beat Getafe To Go Four Points Clear Of Barcelona

By Ibrahim Taiwo

Real Madrid laboured to a 1-0 victory over Getafe to move four points clear of Barcelona as they eye their first league title since 2016.

Getafe started the game with purpose and intent, Courtois had to be called upon to make three saves in the first twelve minutes.

Ten players were booked as the match became a feisty affair with no goals but the tide changed when Carvajal was fouled by Mathias Olivera.

Sergio Ramos made no mistake from the spot to give Real Madrid the lead and subsequently the maximum points.

Real Madrid only need to win four of their last five games to be crowned La Liga champions.

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal believes the club are on course and their destiny is in their hands.

"It is clear that with four points [advantage] we depend on ourselves to win this league. We are on course," Carvajal said after the game.

"Getafe played a very well-rounded game. We had to take advantage of Barcelona's slip, today was a final.

"Gefate made it tough. We had to be serious, showing that we are a unit.

Real Madrid return to La Liga action with a trip to San Mames to face Atletico Bilbao on Sunday.
