Carl Ikeme To Auction Super Eagles Jersey To Help Motherless Babies

Ex-Super Eagles goalkeeper Carl Ikeme says he will auction his national team jersey to help raise funds for motherless babies in Onitsha, Anambra State as part of efforts to cushion the effects Covid-19.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper stated this via his Twitter handle that he has made a decision to auction his shirt which he wore against Zambia during the qualifiers of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

He said "During this crisis, I have been thinking of a way to raise funds for few charities , me and my family feel strongly about this at this time"

"While we have all been affected in different ways by this lockdown, I have been worryingly aware of how the impact has really affected Nigeria. Unfortunately state aid is hard to come by. Hunger and poverty could hit just as hard as the virus with people unable to leave their houses to make ends meet."

The 33-year old who featured for Nigeria 10 times further added "I'm auctioning my Nigeria shirt from the World Cup qualifier against Zambia. This was also my final game in a Super Eagles shirt"

"The funds will help to buy vital supplies for the motherless children and babies in Onitsha and Umunna in south Onitsha"

"I will also be looking to support other causes in Nigeria whereby the money raised will go directly to the people that need it."

Ikeme was forced to retire from football due to a battle with Leukemia.
