Rabier is charged with taking Madagascar to major tournaments

Madagascar have appointed Frenchman Jean-Paul Rabier as their new football coach.

The 55-year-old has signed a twenty month contract.

Rabier was previously in charge of Burkina Faso and succeeded in guiding them to the Africa Cup of Nations finals in 2004.

He also worked in Japan, Qatar and Algeria after being coach of several French second division sides in the 1980s.

Rabier has been charged with qualifying the island's team for major football tournaments.
