BORDEAUX MUST LEARN FROM DEFEAT – DIARRA

Bordeaux may have been eliminated from the Champions League, despite a 1-0 home victory against Olympique Lyonnais, but midfielder Alou Diarra believes that there were a number of positives on show from les Girondins on Wednesday evening.

Going into the game 3-1 down after the first leg and having suffered three defeats in their previous three matches, Bordeaux was considered to be in something of a crisis situation by the French media, but Laurent Blanc's side responded well. Marouane Chamakh's goal just before the break gave les Girondins the plaudits on the night, but it is Lyon who will play Bayern Munich in the semifinals.

'It's another disappointment; another of our objectives got away from us despite the fact that we played a good match,' Diarra lamented to Ligue 1's official website. 'We have to focus on the positives: we showed Bordeaux's best side tonight.

'Over the two matches, Lyon deserve their qualification; they created a significant lead in the first match. In the end it came down to just one goal.

'We need to take inspiration from this match for the rest of our season. It's the more experienced side that went through, and at this stage of the competition, experience counts for a lot.

'Their keeper (Hugo Lloris) was awesome but we could have scored a second goal had we been a bit calmer.'
