Declare Emeka Ihedioha Winner Now

By Professor Edward Oparaoji, USA

According to various reports, the recently conducted Gubernatorial elections in Imo State, was declared inconclusive. The reason given for this by the State Returning Officer (SRO) was that “We have various cancellations in various units and wards. The affected polling units in the local governments totaled 144,715. The margin of lead from the two leading parties is 79,529, and because of this figure, this election is inconclusive,”

Since this decision by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), more troubling irregularities have been uncovered. First was that results from areas where Rochas Okorocha recorded wide margins were strangely recorded on result sheets with serial numbers from a Northern State. The second irregularity was revealed by an INEC official Mrs. Emmanuella Opara, who confessed, that she was kidnapped and taken to a secret location by agents of the APC candidate, where she was forced at gunpoint to enter fictitious figures. Thirdly contrary to section 27(1)(f) of the electoral act as amended, “The Results of all the elections shall be announced by State Collation Centre in the case of election of a Governor of a State”, but Okorocha in contravention, went publicly to declare himself winner of the Imo gubernatorial election.

With these verifiable violations of the election process, it is therefore suspicious and incomprehensible that INEC acted solely on claims by the same discredited APC and Okorocha, to cancel credible election results, all from the PDP strongholds.

INEC should restore all cancelled votes, as it is unfair to cancel elections only in areas considered PDP strongholds. When all the results are accounted for, even with the forged results awarded to Okorocha, it will be clear that the intention of the Imo voters were for Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha.

It is therefore the right thing to do to declare Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha be declared the winner of the Imo State Gubernatorial election immediately!

Any delays or cancellation of the election would be an undue reward to Okorocha and a gross injustice to the Deputy Speaker and the people of Imo State who had given him their clear mandate!

Rochas Okorocha must not be allowed to be the beneficiary of his criminal enterprise, which goes against the natural law of forfeitures, first enunciated in England in 1891, which states that no one should be allowed to retain proceeds of his or her criminal enterprise.

INEC must do the right thing now! Declare Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha the winner of the Imo State gubernatorial election NOW!
