PDP Presidential Campaign Committee Inaugurated

It is most unusual to see a large pool of political heavyweights and supporters gather in a setting outside party conventions. But this unusual gathering was exactly the scene witnessed at the PDP Presidential Campaign Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. This occasion was the inauguration of the PDP Presidential Campaign Committee for the February 14th Presidential elections by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The committee, which is headed by a former National Chairman of the party, Dr. Ahmadu Ali, was made known during the inauguration of the party's National Campaign Council, headed by its National Chairman, Adamu Mu'azu, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on December 11, 2014.

President Jonathan, who arrived the Legacy Building in Maitama at about 1:30pm, was greeted by a marmot crowd from all works of life who came out with drums and trumpets in support of President Jonathan's re-election bid.

Inaugurating the Committee members, the President noted that the task ahead is one that is onerous, but with the commitment of every member of the committee, the Peoples' Democratic Party will be victorious.

On the one hand, the Director General of the Campaign Organization; Dr. Ahmadu Ali appraised the efforts of the PDP in sustaining democracy in Nigeria. “For fifteen years, we have witnessed the transition from one elected President to another; this has been achieved through the instrumentality of the PDP”.

Also, while fielding questions from News Men; Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Juliet Olejeme who is the Deputy Chairman of the finance committee noted with satisfaction the credibility of the members of the campaign organization.

The members of the Campaign team cuts across all the states of the federation. This is an indication that the Party is focused on reaching out to everybody. She however called on all aggrieved members to shed their personal interest and work together towards achieving the desired goal.

Broadly, the inauguration of the campaign committee has kicked off the campaigns for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term. According to the campaign time table, the campaign will kick off in Lagos on the 8th of January.
