The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Rivers South East Students (NARSES) have endorsed Senator Magnus Abe for a second term as senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Senator Abe, who is presently the Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Rivers South East Senatorial election scheduled for the 14th of February, 2015.

The Leader, NANS Zone B, Ledo-Lar Amado, and President, NARSES, Legborsi Yamaabana, disclosed this during the presentation of Bank Draft of One hundred thousand naira each to 159 indigent students from the seven local government areas in the Senatorial district that benefitted from the 2nd Senator Abe's Annual Scholarship award bringing the number of students that have enjoyed the scheme to 239.

The NANS Leader said the decision was based on Abe's support to students in the senatorial district and Rivers State in general, and pledged their resolve to mobilise men, women and youths in the district to vote for the Senator in 2015.

On his part, Yamaabana, who said the senator, has shown commitment to the welfare of students across the state since he was elected into the Senate in 2011, called on students in the senatorial district to ensure his re-election.

He said, “Senator Magnus Abe has shown adequate commitment to the welfare of students in not only the Rivers South East senatorial district, but across the state since he went to the Senate. Consequently, thereto, NARSES hereby call on all youths, students, men, women and the good people of Rivers South East senatorial district to come out en-masse to embrace the Nehemiah of our time by supporting him.”

Responding, Senator Abe said he was humbled by the decision of his constituents, especially students to endorse his aspiration for a second term in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria so as to continue the good works for the state and the senatorial district in particular.

He said, “Honestly, I feel appreciated and encouraged by my constituents. It is not just the students that have endorsed me, the leaders of Ogoni, Oyigbo and Andoni as well as leaders of various groups in the South-East Senatorial District have also done same and promised me of their support, so that we can continue the work we have been doing. I feel humbled and thankful to God Almighty.”

In his speech, the coordinator of the scheme, Kadilo Kabari, said the annual event, which is the second in the series begun during the first year of Senator Abe in the National Assembly, stressing that the Senator has kept his promise of providing incentives and support to students, youths, women, and men in the seven local government areas that make up the district.

Among those at the event were the Presidents of student unions drawn from the seven local government areas of the Senatorial District who in their separate solidarity messages, commended Senator Magnus Abe for keeping his promises.
