Umahi Wins Ebonyi PDP Guber Ticket

Deputy governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi Monday afternoon emerged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the state.

Umahi polled 541 votes out of the of 592 ballots cast by the delegates in an election witnessed by several lawmakers from the state and national assemblies.

The immediate past Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, as well as supporters and associates of Governor Martin Elechi boycotted the primaries.

Chukwu is believed to be the governor's candidate and was encouraged by the later to resign his ministerial appointment to vie for governorship.

Sources hinted that Governor Elechi, who is at daggers drawn with his predecessor, Dr. Sam Egwu, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, is considering defecting to Labour Party (LP).
