Lopsided Polling Boots: S/E PDP Blast INEC, Calls For Reversion
The South East leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has risen
from a crucial meeting in Umuahia, the Abia State Capital on matters of
grave concern to the zone rejecting entirely the alleged allocation of
8000 polling boots to the South East as against the 21,000 polling boots
allocated to the North by the Independent National Electoral commission
(INEC.)
Briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting at Government house, Umuahia,
the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh said the zone
demands that the exercise be suspended forthwith as it is against the
spirit of unity and one Nigeria and a diservice to the zone.
He said the party leadership is worried about the recent announcement of
postings and promotions of officers in the police and requested the
Inspector General of Police with the Police Service Commission to revisit
the exercise with a view to balancing it in favour of the South East.
The PDP leadership also requested that the registration of voters exercise
be extended in areas having problems noting that officers and materials
for the exercise are inadequate.
The meeting commended President Goodluck Jonathan and the Minister of
Health, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu for the efforts and measures the Federal
Government has taken in containing the Ebola scourge and identified with
the measures.
The leadership of the Party resolved to support President Jonathan who is
the leader of the PDP and joined millions of other Nigerians to call on
him to contest the 2015 election, pointing out that the country has
witnessed great transformation in the last 3 years.
The meeting was attended by the Governors of Ebonyi and Abia state, Deputy
Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, Minister for Health, Minister for
Aviation, All South East States PDP Chairmen and among other major PDP
stakeholders.
