I did not give Chibok girls N100 million says Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan, has said his government did not doled out N100M cash to parents of the Chibok schoolgirls after his meeting with them last Tuesday.
There has been an ongoing report in the media of monetary inducements to the parents, following their visit to the Presidential VIlla.
Jonathan through his spokesman, Dr Reuben Abati, described the allegation as completely false and incredible, saying neither were there envelopes distributed nor money shared to the parents.
The statement reads: “The allegation is completely untrue. Nobody distributed any envelope after the meeting.
“The meeting was held in the Villa, a public place. After the meeting, the president left and the parents as well as the children went into their buses in the presence of the media. There was no time after the meeting when envelopes were distributed or money was given.
“The president is not part of and will never do anything to bribe anybody. This issue is not about money. We're talking about human lives here.
“The allegation is completely wild. What they're claiming is unknown to the president. Whoever is claiming it should prove it because no such thing happened. The commitment of the president is to get the girls back safely. It is not about bribing anybody.
“This is a very serious matter and we'll like to appeal to those who want to play politics with it, using all kinds of tricks to ridicule the efforts of the administration, to always appeal to their individual conscience and realize that what we're dealing with here is a very serious matter and not a matter of mischief”.
DailyPost recalls that the parents of the girls had in a Hausa radio program on Tuesday confirmed the report, accusing their community leaders of swindling them in the way the money was shared. They said their leaders were making fortunes out of their misfortunes. The confirmation has further put to doubt the denial by Jonathan's Spokesman, Abati.
